About Us

The Air Force Departmental Publishing Office (AFDPO), under the leadership of the Director, Secretary of the Air Force Administrative Assistant, Information Management (SAF/AAI), implements Air Force Publications and Forms Management guidance and serves as the Headquarters Publications and Forms manager. The operation maintains and manages the e-Publishing website , assists OPR's with creating and developing publications and forms, provides customer service support, procures special printing jobs for senior leadership, and unique Departmental publications and forms.

The Air Force Departmental Publishing Office's: 

MISSION... is to provide publishing products and services for administrative publications and forms to Air Force customers worldwide.

VISION... is to provide life cycle management of Air Force Electronic Publishing enabling product and service delivery to the end user, regardless of media, at the time and location needed, in peace and in war.

AFDPO History
Since the inception of the Air Force, publications and forms have been developed, distributed and used by Air Force personnel for policy and guidance. The life cycle processes of authoring, coordination, approval, storage, access, dissemination, and maintenance of these publications and forms had remained largely manuals despite ever increasing advances in information technology until the early 1990s.

The Air Force Electronic Publishing Program began in the early 1990s with "Forms on Floppies" which used PerformPro for designing and developing electronic forms; a password controlled electronic bulletin board system that enabled the down loading of forms; and the 50-S System that provided the early vestiges of a desktop publishing system. In July 1994, the first Air Force Electronic Publications Library (AFEPL) on CD-ROM containing hundreds of electronic publications and forms was released.

Under the Productivity Investment Fund (PIF) 971 Headquarters Air Force, 3 Oct 97, the Air Force directed the elimination of 88 Air Force publishing distribution office (PDO) activities operated by 234 military and civilian personnel by September 1999. This was the driving force behind the development of an Electronic Transaction System (ETS). NOTE: ETS, as an automated information system, manages the inventory, dissemination management, provides Customer Service Help desk support, and Internet connectivity for administrative information products. ETS is the single point of access for all Air Force departmental, major command (MAJCOM), direct reporting unit (DRU), field operating agency (FOA), and base-level publications and forms, and information to order physical products.
